Man using online dating app on tablet

If you’re single and dating the chances are your index finger has done a fair amount of desperate swiping left and right on an online dating app. So no doubt you wonder on a regular basis in what way you might improve your chances of landing a date nevermind a relationship!

Well, according to new scientific research there is a very simple way in which this can be done! The annual study carried out by the Kinsey Institute, the world-leading institution that looks into sexual habits and practices, has published its results in what it calls the Singles In America paper. After surveying more than 5,000 Americans researchers concluded that emojis played a more important role than previously suspected when it came to predicting the sexual success of a particular person!

The study stated that “the use of emojis allows daters to communicate important affective information to potential partners which facilitates successful intimate connection.”

It goes on to point out that so much of our romantic and intimate communications happen via text message, that often emojis help do the work that hearing someone’s voice on the phone or seeing someone’s facial expressions in person might have done in the past.

Basically it gives us a better picture of what might be happening in terms of the other person’s life and emotions, which is sort of nuts!
The paper goes on, “We argue that emoji use imbues CMC [computer mediated communication] with aspects of expression, emotional valence, and affect that takes advantage of evolved social psychological features of human communication, which in turn can promote the development of intimate relationships.”

So it looks like whether you like it or not, emojis are actually a way of communicating better and more clearly in 2019 and therefore automatically increase your chances of sexual success.

Depending on whether you’re a pessimist or an optimist, this may seem like a piece of good news when all we hear is how the quality of our communication has diminished in recent years. Alternatively you can see it as depressing that we’re so disconnected from one another that emojis have the ability to have such an impact on someone’s private life.

We’ve chosen to spot the silver lining and are going to be using more emojis and hoping for more aubergines and kisses emojis. Lmao.
