We’re in a weird moment beard-wise, where men who’ve probably had a beard for the past few years fancy a change or fancy rid of it all together because it now feels like a black spot of bygone cool that marks them out as not ready for new trends like moustaches or bleached hair. On your commute you’ve probably started to notice a plethora of different facial hair projects in various stages of development – stubble with moustache, pure stubble, caveman beards, or full Bismarck tache.
While all of this in action it might be worth considering what women want and thinking a little about what women’s feelings about facial hair are!
Grooming experts Primandprep.com carried out a nationwide survey in the US to find out what women are into exactly when it comes to men and their facial hair grooming tips. It’s possibly the widest and most thorough survey out there (they compared preferences by geographic regions and relationship status even), so you’d do well to pay attention.
The least attractive facial hair types were – drum roll – ‘moustaches’ and ‘circle beards’! Circle beards being those excrescences from the 90s that form a line around the man’s mouth. Do it only for a bet is our advice.
In 4th and 5th place were ‘full beards’ and ‘goatees’ (goatees seeming somewhat surprising to us) and in 3rd place there was ‘long stubble’ that phase that is probably most commonly seen wandering aruond at the moment.
And almost in first place was a clean-shaven face! In fact more women felt strongly about ranking it as number one (38%) than any other category of facial hair. But the number one type of facial hair women found most attractive was stubble! It was ranked as first and second most attractive facial hair collectively by most women.
Basically study cologne ads for men on TV and you’ve got the look. Good luck!
