Anyone with a Netflix account will probably be aware of the show Sex Education.
Set in a school in Wales, it documents the sexual awakening and mishaps of a bunch of school kids with often hilarious but also poignant moments.
Otis, the show’s central character, has the misfortune of being a teenage boy with a mother who is a sex therapist. To make matters worse at the start of the show he is unable to masturbate and in order to appear normal to his mother he pretends to!
The show is quite explicit and filthy in parts but has gotten good critical reception and is due to be back for a second season!
In particular it’s received praise for its honest treatment of erectile dysfunction, a subject rarely dealt with properly on TV!
In the first episode we follow one character who we’re told is “hung like a horse” as he fails to get an erection or achieve orgasm during sex. This leads to him then taking an overdose of Viagra that threatens to send him to hospital!
The show’s creator Laurie Nunn told UniLad that the intention with the honest portrayals was to “have those uncomfortable, awkward conversations about sex, rather than bottle it all up inside…To try and talk to their partners or – if they can handle it – to their parents, or to their friends. We really think that that’s going to help them have healthier sexual relationships.”
Sex Education is on Netflix now.
